In the Linux world there is an open source alternative for almost every commercial mainstream application, but in this blog post I will focus specifically on alternatives for Adobe applications.
But the question is whether people are well aware that they often use only a marginal part of all the functionalities that a software package has to offer and whether they really need that specific package or perhaps also can achieve the same with alternative applications.
When I talk to people about my passion for Linux and open source software and try to inform them about this special software world as an alternative desktop environment for the mainstream environments of Apple and Microsoft, I often get heated counter arguments that their beloved software is not available for Linux.
